Old Ma (played by Ma Xinchun) is a well-known carpenter and painter in the village. At the age of 73, he no longer works in the fields. His daily activities include watching card games and chatting at the village entrance or making coffins with another village carpenter, Old Cao. However, with the government's strong promotion of cremation, fewer and fewer people come to the two old men for coffins.
